My one and only experience of riding in India - apart from elephants and camels - with ears that wide apart this chap is clearly not Marwari!
Whilst walking along Chennai beach one evening we met the horse and owner who were providing 'pony' rides for the locals. Why not I thought? So not hat, no jods and reins that were more like handlebars than anything I've come across before; but once he saw I knew what I was doing I was allowed to have a trot or two along the beach (no doubt he was hoping for a big tip - which he duly received).
Went back in daylight and found that the horses were in good condition and appeared well looked after to my relief.
On the other hand, not sure about that shirt in any light...

I have been riding for 25 years now, and my daughter and I currently own three horses; Magic 13.2hh Haflinger pony, Olivia her 16.1hh Welsh sec D x TB (who jumps like a stag), and Cara my beautiful 17.1hh IDxTB chestnut mare. Cara is quite clearly the most lovely (though Daisy might not agree).
Of course its not always plain sailing:
"Jump", I said
"No", she said, "You jump and see how far you get on your own"
"Oh that far", I love the tongue sticking out - still at least the jump wing broke my fall.
Horses!
Cara now has arthritus and no longer jumps (we did actually win a few times as well as fall off) so now we are competing at Trec - only once so far but it seems to suit us both, and our next event is in August.
